The 1839 Awards are our annual awards ceremony which celebrates individuals who have helped to improve the student experience at the University of Chester. Students, academics, and professional services staff can be nominated for an award.

The winner of this award will be the Student Voice Representative (SVR) who has been recognised for their commitment to the Student Voice Representation programme, for being a positive role model to their peers, and for driving positive change within their course and/or department. They should have also attended at least one Student Voice Meeting and completed their SVR training. They must be a student within the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Society – please see other award categories for students within other faculties.

The winner of this award will be the Student Council member who has been recognised for their commitment to the student body and/or groups they represent. They will be a positive role model to their peers and drive positive change within the University. They should have attended at least one student council meeting and must be a member of student council.
The winner of this award will be the best PAT or Professional Mentor, as voted for by their students. Students will have recognised this staff member for being committed to their role and providing invaluable support, insight, and time for students.
The winner of this award will be the best postgraduate supervisor, as voted for by their students. They will have gone above and beyond to support their students and have supported them on their academic journey.
The winner of this award will be the best Professional Services staff, as voted for by students, and will have enhanced the student experience outside of the classroom. This award recognises that the student experience is so much more than the academic side of the experience, and members of University support departments can play a huge role in this. Nominees for this award will include (but is not limited to) cleaning staff, catering staff, careers and employability, CSU staff, AU staff, technicians, LIS staff and Student Services staff.
The winner of this award will be the best Professional Services staff, as voted for by staff, and has stood out to their peers over the past year. This could be through supporting others, overcoming adverse circumstances, and producing successful outputs. Nominees for this award will include (but is not limited to) cleaning staff, catering staff, careers and employability, CSU staff, AU staff, technicians, LIS staff and Student Services staff.
The winner of this award will be the best lecturer, as voted for by their students. They may encourage their students to study outside of the set curriculum and help foster critical thinking skills for their students. This could be through their extensive subject knowledge, engaging teaching style, challenging perspectives, or simply their passion for teaching.
The winner of this award will champion mental health and wellbeing within the University.This could be an individual or a service at the University which has gone the extra mile to support students in times of hardship. They let students know that help is available if they need it and may also support the student to get support.
The winner of this award will champion equality and diversity within the University. This could be an individual or a service at the University which has gone the extra mile to promote equality and diversity. They will have allowed students demonstrate their abilities and encouraged them to develop on their student journey.
The winner of this award will be a student who may not fit into the other categories, but still demonstrates outstanding talent at the University. They may have advocated for their peers, been a strong student voice during their time at University or continued in their studies despite facing personal challenges or hardships.
