We are changing...

Chester Students’ Union is undertaking a rigorous programme of change that aims to place the organisation on a path to excellence and deliver a vibrant organisation for our members that:

  • Represents their voice
  • Helps build their community, and
  • Ensures access to academic advice when it is needed.

Why is change needed?

During 2022 we became concerned that we were not delivering the best possible students’ union for our members and started working with our partners, at the University of Chester, NUS, Coole Insight and Greenhouse to understand the position of the organisation. To this end we commissioned a health assessment and began work on establishing a road map.

The Health Assessment and Road Map was delivered to the organisation in March 2023 and our Trustee Board resolved to create the change programme.

The pathway to create our change programme has been given the backing and support of the University Council, its Planning and Resource Committee and the Strategic Executive Team of the University.

The Change Programme will be overseen by a Turnaround Board, created by our Trustee Board with special powers to directly improve the Students’ Union. The change programme will run from May 2023 until April 2024 and will be overseen by the Turnaround Board. The Trustee Board have also appointed a Change Director to work with the organisation over the coming year. Scott Farmer, is a senior consultant working in the Students’ Union sector and will work with all stakeholders to improve the SU.
