Next up, it's Summer - VP Student Life for 2024/2025, reflecting on her year in office.

Hello everyone,

I cannot believe how quickly this year has flown by!

I have really enjoyed this year, it has come with a lot of ups and downs but it has been incredibly rewarding and allowed me to meet so many incredible people (you know who you are!). For most of the year, it probably seemed quite quiet from my end but believe me, I was busy every day fighting for students voices to be heard in so many different areas! I am so lucky to have had this opportunity to represent the University of Chester Students as your Vice President of Student Life 24/25.

Looking over at some highlights of the year, I:

  • put out 2 blog campaigns, 6 Board Game Nights, seasonal quizzes and craft events
  • got involved in wider community projects and meetings such as CRAG (where a conference for all residents including students will be happening at the racecourse on the 14th of October), purple flag, streets angels, councillor catch ups and working with our student sustainability outreach reps.
  • I filmed for both street angels and the race advocates!
  • I brought improved microwaves into binks for students as well as fighting for more in the library and aimed to get better student spaces for students.
  • I chaired club connect forums and, with the work of the sports and active lifestyle team, tried to make 25/26 a great year for transparency with better support for sports teams.

I have done more but a lot of things that I have done this year, you will see the effects of in the following year and further on, so I hope you all look forward to this!

Looking into the future, I will still be a student here at the University for another 3 years, studying Marketing and Tourism, so it isn’t goodbye yet as you will still see me around being involved in volunteering, working as a student ambassador and more. On my last day I will have also sent an accessibility document to the council and to the heads of the University to showcase how the University campuses and the city can be better accessible for all so let’s hope this makes some impact! Plus, I will be doing a talk at the festival of ideas on the 5th of July so please feel free to book a ticket and come down to the town hall!

To the next officer team, I wish them all the best, the year does go fast but I am sure they will do incredible things and make a lot of change.

Thank you everyone, I am incredibly grateful once again.

See you soon,

Summer x
