British Sign Language

Our society is created to raise deaf awareness, encourage more people to learn to sign
and teach BSL.

We meet regularly to learn British Sign Language. We do this both online and on campus. We are currently undertaking a certificate program with British Sign. We hope to be more inclusive by learning another form of communication for those that are hard of hearing.

By being a part of this society, you get to learn a new and valuable skill in a social environment with other like-minded individuals. Although we feel it is important to educate, we also want our society to be fun! We are planning a variety of fun opportunities for the next academic year such as a Signing Choir and organising more socials! We are also hoping to provide members with the opportunity to gain Level 1 Signing Qualifications.

Our values

  • To create a sense of belonging here at University of Chester
  • To promote continual learning, professional development and networking
  • To enable members to support each other
  • To be inclusive
  • To raise awareness for those that are hard at hearing
  • To create an educational environment that is also social
