After having several meetings with Senior University Management and the Deputy Director of Student Services, CSU's VP Shrewsbury decided the guidelines for the University of Chester needed to be updated as a whole instead of adding on a policy. VP Shrewsbury has worked with our LGBTQ+ Rep from Student Council and the President of the LGBTQ+ Society to gain student perspective on what needs to be updated - not only on the guidelines, but at UoC as a whole. VP Shrewsbury gathered student and staff feedback on these guidelines. Going forward, the Gender Identity Guidelines will be read through line by line, making relevant edits, and the LGBTQ+ Rep and LGBTQ+ Society President will write a student friendly package with a staff friendly guide accompanying. The Gender Identity Guidelines will then be reworked to be a format and a way to help support the student/staff friendly guides.

After talking with Amethyst, SU staff, and Shane Simpkin from NUS, I am wanting to write a policy for registration to be more inclusive to our Trans and Non-Binary students. As of now, there's no options for students to change their pronouns and names within registration, meaning students are having to be addressed by dead names and pronouns they are no longer assosciated with. In this policy, there will be an option in Registration for students to put their preferred names and pronouns in a box called "Known As". This will allow for students who have to use dead names for legal purposes to use as such, but the known as will be what appears on any UoC server and documents, with dead name hidden and only used for legal purposes. If this passes, the SU will present the policy to the University to put into place.

Would love to bring this to council and get your opinions prior to writing!
