Alyssa Sue Berrios
Alyssa Berrios for Vice-President Student Life
As a law student, a student-rep, an activist, and someone who navigates the ups and downs of student life firsthand, I know that university isn't just about academics. It's about community, well-being, and making the most of your time on and off campus. Unfortunately, though, too many students are struggling with unaffordable cost of living and lack of support when they try to make their voices heard.
I'm running for Vice-President Student Life because I believe in a student union that stands with its students, fights for their needs, and makes university life more affordable, inclusive, and engaging.
My Priorities
- Lobby for better and cheaper student housing by pushing for rent caps, more University oversight, and expanded housing partnerships with accommodation in Chester.
- Advocate for stronger, clearer guidelines that ensure student societies can organize events on important issues without facing unnecessary barriers or penalties.
- Push for all societies to elect their leadership through fair votes, replacing the undemocratic successor system.
- Provide leadership training and funding opportunities to support new committee members.
- Work with the Careers Office to improve fairs with more Tier 2 sponsored jobs for international students and expand support for part-time employment to help with the cost of living.
- Support societies in creating exciting, large-scale events like better Freshers events, cultural festivals, and career networking opportunities.
- Advocate for more fundraising initiatives, local business sponsorships, and student discounts to expand activities without financial struggle.
- Create new and better ways to connect and engage with students to hear their issues.
Why Vote For Me?
I believe in a union that stands with its students, fights for fairness, and improves student life for everyone. If elected, I promise to listen, take action, and make real changes to better our University of Chester community.
