Each group below offers a different reporting option for your circumstances.
If you’re unsure or need support with the process, contact us and we will help you through this. You are not alone.
All of the reporting teams listed below exist to offer you the space to speak and be heard, with no judgement and will support you with any steps you wish to take.
If you would like to record an incident to be included on our map, please complete this form. This record will be kept anonymous, and there is no requirement for you to have reported the incident formally. You can submit this and also receive support or guidance on how to report formally. Our advisors can help.
You can report a concern or incident by following this link to the University's Safety Net Report A Concern Service.
The Advice Service is trained to take reports of hate crime and disclosures of sexual violence. We will offer a non-judgmental space in which to disclose what has happened and provide guidance on the options available to you inside and outside of the University.
We can act as the go-between for you to access other services if you are reluctant to reach out to them yourself, for instance requesting a meeting with the proctor’s office, or calling the local SARC to request to attend. We can also provide guidance outside of reporting, including advising on what to do with your assignments, or liaising on housing if the incident happened at home.
If the incident has involved another student or staff member at the University, you can report this to the University for investigation. The department who will usually handle your complaint is the University Proctor. They are responsible for investigating all allegations at University.
Our advisors can help you to make an appointment with the Proctor’s office to report the incident and support you in attending this meeting. You can also put any allegation in writing, and email it to universityproctor@chester.ac.uk.
If you do not want to report an incident of hate crime directly to the police, you can report it online at www.report-it.org.uk.
Our advisors can talk through the form with you.
The police will investigate each report received.
You can report anonymously but this may affect any ability to prosecute, and limits the support they can offer as well.
If you are reporting an incident of Sexual Violence, you can also report this through a Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC). At the centre, you will be supported by medical staff as well as staff trained to take a disclosure from you. You can also ask for support from an ISVA (Independent Sexual Violence Advisor) to guide you through the criminal justice system.
