At Chester Students' Union, we are passionate about supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and we want to help spread the word about the importance of checking yourself and early detection. We’ve gathered some resources to help you understand what to look for, and what steps to take if you do find something unusual.

Why is it important?

Breast cancer can affect anyone, regardless of age or gender. While it’s usually associated with women, men can also get breast cancer. The area to check goes beyond what you’d normally think of as “boobs” - it includes the whole area between your collarbones and armpits. Getting used to your own body can make a huge difference in recognising any changes early on, and early detection can save lives.

Know the signs and how to check yourself

Understanding what feels and looks normal for your body is the first step. Checking regularly can help you spot any changes more easily, and we have collected some fantastic resources to guide you:

Self-Check: Get started with regular self-checks using this self-check tool from CoppaFeel: https://self-checkout.coppafeel.org/

Signs and Symptoms: Learn about what to look for with this guide to symptoms: https://coppafeel.org/breast-cancer-info-and-advice/breast-cancer-symptoms-signs/
