As an individual and international student, I would like to propose an idea that aims to foster a sense of belonging and celebration among students from diverse backgrounds at our esteemed university. I believe that by organizing an Ethnic Day, we can create a unique event that not only showcases inclusivity and diversity but also facilitates cultural exchange and promotes a sense of community among both international and home students.

The concept of Ethnic Day is inspired by the idea of providing a platform for students who are away from their home and family to connect with their cultural roots and share their traditions with the wider university community. By incorporating this event into our university's event calendar, we can establish a significant milestone as the first institution to host such an ethnic event.

The proposed Ethnic Day would serve as an opportunity for students to proudly wear their traditional attire, creating a visually vibrant and diverse atmosphere on campus. Moreover, mini food stalls featuring street food or finger snacks from various countries would provide an authentic gastronomic experience, allowing students to explore different cuisines and celebrate the culinary diversity within our university community.

In addition to the food stalls, a music festival showcasing a fusion of traditional and contemporary performances from different cultures would further enrich the event. Cultural performances, such as dance, music, and theater, would create a lively and engaging ambiance, fostering a deeper appreciation and understanding of various artistic expressions.

To encourage participation and engagement, various games and activities that celebrate the uniqueness of different cultures could be organized. These activities would provide a platform for students to interact, collaborate, and learn from one another, promoting a spirit of unity and friendship.

By embracing the concept of Ethnic Day, our university can become a trailblazer in fostering a diverse and inclusive environment, setting an example for other institutions to follow. This event would not only enhance the overall student experience but also contribute to the internationalization efforts of our university, attracting prospective students seeking an inclusive and culturally rich educational environment.

I kindly request your consideration of this proposal and the potential benefits it can bring to our university community. I am more than willing to provide any further details or assistance needed to help materialize this event. I believe that hosting an Ethnic Day would be a significant step towards promoting cultural exchange, inclusivity, and unity within our university.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I eagerly look forward to your response and the opportunity to discuss this proposal in more detail.

Sincerely,

Christina Joseph (2021018@chester.ac.uk)
